5 ideas to beat the blues

In the beginning God created. {Genesis 1:1}

His Spirit hovered over the deep and voidless waters and He breathed out creation. {Genesis 1:2}

He created beauty because He IS beauty. He created wonder because He IS wonderful. He created Shalom which means peace because He IS peace. {John 14:27}

God’s heart is to create order from choas and bring all our “winter blues” to peace. To become our strength, song and salvation. {Psalm 118:14}

We may be out of the blue days of winter in the south, but we are still waiting the full birth of spring. Embracing a lifestyle of Becoming while we wait for Spring can happen as we allow God to refresh wonder and awe in the midst of our every day worlds. It may seem silly to some but there really are simple tangible maybe even superficial ways we can invade chaos with God’s Becoming order.

Let’s allow freedom in Christ to rule over our lusts for perfection, friends. Let’s not over complicate our daily Becoming rhythms. We can choose simple ways of bringing order from chaos as God is becoming our strength, song and salvation. Don’t make expressing your Becoming stressful. It can be as simple as engaging your senses and pushing the refresh button. This doesn’t make you superficial. It makes you a human BEING utilizing your 5 senses right alongside your depth of Biblical intelligence. Remember this simple yet profound Truth today: The Lord waits {longs even!} to be gracious to you. {Isaiah 30:15}

Here are 5 simple ideas to beating the blues as you insert Becoming in your Home…

  1. Refresh something in your home space. Choose anything big or small. I just refreshed my bedding and I am loving Rifle Paper + Company Story collab. The Peacock Ivory with the Laurel Blue sheets have felt like magic.

  2. Find a new recipe or way of making something. While all my friends are diving into befriending a sourdough starter I’m over here on the hunt for a great homemade sugar cookie recipe {ha} - well, after a careful search my girls and I found the Land O Lakes sugar cookie recipe and it is DIVINE. light, balance of sugar and flour, keeps the shape of the cut outs as it bakes and our fellas loved them!

  3. Add a fresh color into your life. I chose this new nail polish from Olive and June. Bold and Unshaken.

  4. I find that tapping into the 5 senses Creator God has given us are helpful when looking to beat the blues and keep step with Becoming inside the life you live out every day with all the mundane responsibilities. Don’t laugh, but I look at becoming happening everywhere - whether I am reading my Bible or doing the laundry. It all goes together. And seeing it as such helps me war well against discontentment. Good smelling laundry is helpful when you have lots to do. Amiright?! Simply Grace add to my laundry rhythm is a Trotter Tribe favorite!

  5. A simple bouquet of grocery store flowers refresh any room. I truly try to keep a vase of fresh flowers in the house often. Something about seeing that small bit of fresh beauty keeps my heart creatively becoming.

Ultimately, my help to beat the blues comes from the Lord. Injecting the thought that as I engage with my very real life and decide that a million mini decisions exist to engage with what I am becoming has transformed my mindset. The Lord is becoming my strength and song through every day as He helps me war well amongst the rubble. Finding small bits of beauty bait my senses into surrendering the days that might otherwise feel too ordinary. With God as our help there is no day left unbecoming. “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” {Psalm 121:2}
